Week 5 had me convinced she was starving. She's now up 3 lbs, 9oz from when we left the hospital, so clearly not starving! Hope you survive. ...I had to use my nipple shield occasionally because it was a painful week!!

Week 5 growth spurt is news to me too. Maybe we started the celebration a bit early with the past tow days longer feeding sessions and screaming when off the boob.. I think we might finally be getting latching down but my nipples are eager for a break. Here's hoping we do pack on some weight before our recheck at the end of next week!
I would say they tingle/burn sometimes and the breast is stabby sometimes. Not rosy. And this is only on occasion. It's been like this for over a month. When I asked the LC about it she said it was likely that my breasts were full. If it happens it's usually close to a feeding time.
I get this randomly when I'm not nursing, it's a tingly burning sensation and only lasts a few seconds. Feels exactly like my let down so I just assume it's my milk doing milky boob things. Doesn't feel like the stabby shooting pain that is thrush.
+1 to this. Any tingly type boobie thing (if it isn't exceptionally painful) I just equate with milky boob things.

So much for thinking I'd have no nip pain since I was still nursing my 2 yr old. We've got some latch issues and we'll get through it but man it effing hurts

I think I just nursed from the wrong side. And E has turned into a block feeder. I'll try not to whine about my hard left boob in a couple hrs if this is the case

I feel so incredibly guilty to admit that I sometimes hate breastfeeding. Im usually good the first 10 minutes of a feed but then I just want her off me. Please let these past couple days be the 5 week growth spurt. The frequent, long feeds are draining me.
Starting to wonder if we have thrush based on descriptions you all have shared (quit whining already!) And what I've read online.
I have really intense burning pain during initial latch and most feedings on both sides. Righty eases up after a while but lefty curls my toes during the whole feed. My nipples are the same color they've always been.
oopsiedaisies, did you say you used shield for 4 months? I am looking down the barrel of this situation m and am wondering if i will ever be able to nip? Right now i have them to heal but i don't know that my nipples will ever protrude enough. What happened or changed ?
Don't remember if I asked this b4 but is anyone tring not to use pacifier? We haven't used one yet, but I think we will need one to use bottles because he drinks them so fast he is not satisfied and I have to nurse him right after to get him happy

We actually are using a pacifier. (to not really respond to your question...) He likes it when he is going to sleep.
The ped said to go ahead, since we've established nursing and a good latch. He doesn't seem to have any problem going between the breast and the pacifier and the bottle (we've added that this week w/ pumped breastmilk).

The nurses gave W a pacifier in the hospital (w/o asking but w/e). We've only used it once since. Trying to avoid it until we have nailed this bf thing but after that I'm totally open to it.
I found this article about bottle feeding a breast fed baby. Maybe it would help with his feedings.

I purposefully avoided pacifiers when we were establishing breastfeeding. He is almost 6 weeks old now and I tried a few times this week to give him a Soothie when he seemed to be using me as a boob pacifier. We haven't been successful in getting him to keep it in his mouth - he actively tries to spit it out.

this is something I fear too, I plan to take him on the bus (just the pm run at first) with me at 8w and if he refuses a paci that could be a disaster.
I could not for the life of me remember which boob Jake was supposed to be on, even if it was like 10 or 20 min later. Then I downloaded the Feed Baby app. Thank you, technology.
So.... this random weird burning/tingling feeling over the my whole breast that I feel randomly throughout the day.... is that let down? I don't feel let down while I'm nursing at all and the only way I know it happened is the swallowing and look of satisfaction on LOs face.

I feel the same tingly/burning when I haven't fed her in a while and I assume it's a letdown mixed with getting a little full. I also never feel a let down when I feed but she's eating so I assume I do.

For me, it's the first few minutes that make me want to switch to formula! She can hang out all day once I get a little numb.....

I just put a hair tie on my wrist to tell me which side is up next, switch asides while burping. Low tech AF.

+1 for this. I never feel let down during a feed but I must have a strong one. He leaves a huge puddle on me or the boppy. If I start getting full I'll feel let down and I start leaking.
