The boob buffet is nonstop this evening. So tired. Hoping this is our last session before a lil sleep. So thankful my little one is hungry and gaining weight ( both were challenges this week), and my boots actually feel deflated for the first time ! I just need a breather.
kaeguri, kellymom is a favorite resource of mine. I started nursing school with the goal of becoming a LC myself once I graduate. This became a huge passion of mine once I started bf'ing my dd...there is so much misinformation out there that is given to new moms it breaks my heart.
The LC I talked to told me to hand express or pump the same breast that I nursed from right after to get the hind milk and then feed it to her with a syringe. I'm guessing this isn't necessary then?
Oh goodness our doctor and LC at the pediatricians office wanted us using a syringe. We tried it for a night and it really didn't work well for us. Anything we put down with that was usually coming back up, and likely little ones feedings got lengthier and increased on their own
2 hours. 2 effing hours and she still wants to be on the boob. I just can't right now.
This was my entire day today. I'm glad he's finally calmed down a bit because I was starting to get touched out. We even went and bought a bottle because I thought I was going to lose it.
On the subject of hospital grade pumps...yes! I have an ameda purely yours and lost have the parts to it between kids. Wic here provides parts if needed but they didn't have any specifically for my pump so they loaned me the hospital grade one (which has the same pieces) but man. Pumped twice as much in half the time. I was going to return it Monday but now I think I'm going to hang on to it.
Anyone else just not hungry? I thought breastfeeding was supposed to make you ravenous?
Yes, this!! I just cannot eat. I have to force it, and I still don't think I'm eating enough. I don't understand if this is a problem? Maybe my body is trying to get rid of the extra reserves I stored up during pregnancy? But I know I would feel less exhausted if I could just EAT!
I feel like my supply tanked in a day. Yesterday I felt myself get full, I knew which boob she needed to eat from. Now today I wake up and they are like empty sacs. I know she's getting some because she is peeing and pooping and I pumped after a feed and got a half ounce from each boob. I still feel like my supply tanked though because she's only a week old and with my son I was still full and engorged.
And I thought we had the latching finally figured out but when she is first on it's toe curling pain. Then it gets better. Should it hurt that bad with a good latch?

Ditto to everything. My huge, sore engorged boobs flattened late yesterday and feeding is taking so much longer. I'm a bit more comfortable overall, but panicking that my supply will disappear or something.
In also stil having trouble latching her occasionally so I think that's why any latch hurts (at first) since my nipples are still irritated.
Add me to the not hungry but need to eat more group.

This! I'm hoping my body has just decided to eat my love handles first...

It'll come. I was like this in the beginning...hubs had to remind me to eat and would just make me food in the beginning and bring it to me. I think it comes from being so focused on the baby.
I still have an inside baby, so obviously I'm not there yet....but those of you having trouble eating, can you drink some calories/nutrition? Like, would a smoothie be easier to get down? bibliothecary, jgesi, others

I'm doing smoothies, gatorade, and cut fruit. On hand, at all times.
Just a heads up: NEVER skip a feeding session of you can help it.
H, L and I all slept through a feeding this morning. I woke up so full that L couldn't latch on. In had to pump an oz from each side before he could try and nurse.

Babes barely got anything from the last night feeding and this morning, nothing. I didn't even get anything when I pumped. My boobs don't feel full at all so I guess that's it? No more boob juice?

Milk doesn't just disappear like that. Are you sure he wasn't getting anything ?

If he got anything, there wasnt much of it. There was no residue on the nipple shield or anything like there normally is.

Obviously it's hard to say since im not there? When was the last time you nursed before that? I remember you saying you had a cheap pump.
I've been nursing him every three hours. I have a wic appointment on Friday so I'm going to borrow a hospital grade pump from them and see what happens. Until then, I'm going to keep trying to nurse him and hopefully the stimulation will have an effect.

I would call tomorrow morning and see if you can get in sooner to see someone...tell them that you feel like your having supply issues and would like to see an LC sooner and see about a hospital grade pump to help your supply.

I will on Tuesday. For some stupid reason they're closed on Mondays
I am 90% weaned from the shield and am very happy about it! I use it when I'm really full, because it helps her latch, but otherwise it's gone! To anyone struggling with it, hang in there!!

For those who know about lactation cookies, it's it with it if you can't use brewer's yeast? I'm having to research into finding certified gluten free.
Never mind, I found out it's generally gluten free.

I'm at the same point. The only time he can't latch without it is when I'm really full.
Does anyone else have issues with milk going everywhere? This is not going to be ok for NIP. I'm hoping it gets better as he gets more control.
Question about pumping - how much is avg to pump in a 15 min session? I get 2.5-3 oz in that time w medela symphony
That's good in the beginning. Your supply will keep going up until I think 2-3 months. When I went back to work at 9 weeks last time I pumped 8-12 ounces twice a day for months.
runningmommy519lindy , thanks ladies ! Right now I'm exclusively pumping because the nipple shield is NOT working for us, it hurts like crazy. We try every day to latch properly and I think we are making some progress. After a total meltdown complete with ugly crying on Saturday I al Thinking positively and I think we wil be able to get it soon
