WTF is wrong with my kid. His witching hours are between 10pm-2:30am. Wants boob but doesn't want boob. Doesn't want to be held wants to be held. I'm so over this crap he's been pulling every night this week. He only wants to sleep during the day. Argh!
L will not sleep longer than 45 minutes at a time. I timed all of his naps/sleeps today and he literally will not stay asleep.
He either gets super gassy and pissed or hungry and wet. Every time he wakes up, he needs to nurse, burp, settle, and then be swaddled back to sleep. It is not unusual for it to take over an hour for this routine.
b DS2 had horrible colic (which was later diagnosed as acid reflux) and we alternated gas drops and gripe water. The two seemed to really help him finally get sleep, as he was going through the same routine as yours.

Why does F always poop once she nurses and falls asleep? I swear it is like she knows I am about to put her back down. I have to go through the whole process of changing diaper, nursing, and rocking again.

Advice?
Gripe water Gas drops Infant probiotics (bio Gaia) Bicycle their legs to help the gas come out Make sure you are really burping him well - we had a "reluctant burper" as my doctor said so we changed up how we burped him and it helped
Helps with digestive issues we had with ds1
Also swaddling, white noise. Download and read or watch the DVD of happiest baby on the block. It gives helpful advice.

YES! It never fails. I was so used to changing DS1 to wake him up enough to nurse in the middle of the night, so I'm stuck in the habit of doing so for DS3. Well, that usually equates to 2 diaper changes at every night feed thanks to pooping right after falling asleep. I'm not going to lie, I've contemplated ignoring it since I knew he'd be up in less than 2 hours anyways (spoiler - I changed him and got over myself).
Count me in! First night home with E after two relatively easy hospital nights, imagine my surprise when our little princess nursed straight through from 1-4 this am. And now she's back at it. She's got her days and nights mixed up, so transitioning her to a schedule that won't kill MH and I is top of the agenda for the next few days.
rondosa, what did you do differently for your reluctant burper? I think this may be Charlie. I CANNOT get him to burp, ever! It's like he just has to work it out himself or something. I've tried putting, rubbing, circles, hard and soft, over my lap, on my shoulder... I'm at a loss!
trichie5 - I started doing what I saw the NICU nurse do. I sit her in my lap kind of hunched over facing right and I use my right hand to put my pinkie under her armpit and my thumb and other fingers cupping under her chin (Palm spread across her chest) and use the other hand to pat and rub her back. It gets her in more of a C position and seems to work much better for her. It looked like the nurse was going to choke or cut off her air supply when I first saw it but your hand is really just under the chin, not on the throat.

Does bouncing work? Lo was a super gassy reflux baby and bouncing her on my knee seemed to work best.
On burping - It's worked best with both of my girls to do soft back rubs upward from their waist up to their shoulders (just a few) and then to just sit and wait holding them upright. Our GI doc suggested that with our daughter when she had bad gas & reflux.
So sorry @boxerific. Reflux is awful. I remember how terrible I felt during some of the days when my DD had it so bad. I can't imagine entertaining an older child while feeling that way. Take care of you!!
Up. 5 min into nursing and little dude falls asleep. I really want to put him down and go back to sleep but I'm afraid he'll be up again in another hour.
This is my life right now. 7-10 min opposed to the 15-20 during the day. Little man was up every hour from 1:45 until 5:45...

This is how we burp our two. Learned in the NICU also. Works like a charm. T is a reluctant burper, so it takes more work.
We also learned to rub their spines, rock side to side and even rub their heads (all in the hunched-over, hand on chin position). Sometimes we have to try all the options with T, but it only takes a few minutes to get it out.
Up here. I'm hoping that LO will sleep longer than an hour after I put him down, but if the last few nights are any telling, he'll be up every hour until 5 or 6. I'm exhausted and really just want more than an hour or so of sleep in a row.
I'm up too. DD needed a drink. Contractions have slowed way down, but still happening & so annoying. And my lower back is killing me. Good luck to all of the mamas awake to nurse!
Just when LO falls asleep he gets the hiccups all the time and then wakes up. Go to sleep cause mama wants to sleep. He is eating every 3 hours but he is only sleeping for an hour or hour and a half. I thought babies slept more. I also thought formula babies went longer between feeds. They don't.

Yes this is exactly what I did. I'd sit him on my lap and sideways and use one hand across his chest to prop him up and sorta lean him forward. The doctor showed me this method. You have to burp them surprisingly hard, obviously use your judgement but it would take a while but eventually he'd burp it out.
