I should not have posted how relatively well Owen has been sleeping. We were up three times last night. Now he gets to keep sleeping and I have to go teach small squirrely children. Dnw. Plus my supply has been having issues this week and I'm pretty sure it's because I've been drinking extra coffee. Whomp whomp. Only one cup for me today.

We've abandoned cry it out and now he seems to be sleeping from 7:30ish to 5 am with one wakeup at 12:15 to eat. All my attempts to get him to sleep til 6/6:30 have failed. Even when I feed him at 5:30, he stays up til 6:30/7 but seems tired the whole time. Any suggestions on the later wakeup?
Tonight I'm sure he'll go back to waking every 2 hours. And I've done nothing different except for a few nights of letting him cry for 5 or so minutes before giving him his pacifier, which has stopped because I can't function at work when we're up listening to him cry MOTN.
Aww budders! I'm so sorry! Is there anyway you can nurse and then hand V over to YH? Since you said V nurses quickly, then at least you could get a little more sleep. And DH & I still have not DTD since April.
The thing is, he doesn't really stay awake after I nurse him. It's just the frequency of how often he wakes up. I nursed him probably five or six times last night, which seems really excessive to me, but who knows? He's still teething, and they were really bothering him last night, so I'm not sure if it was a bit of comfort nursing. I'm also not sure if it's because he ends up in bed with me, and he smells the milk, but i've had him in bed with me like that for a long time, and he doesn't always eat that much. Last night I tried to put him back in the PnP a couple of times and then he was back up again within a half an hour, so I just put him in bed with me (but we were still up every hour and a half to eat). I could get H involved for those times when I know I just fed him.
I'm sorry V is waking so much. Do you think it might help if he was in his own room? Sounds like a few of the wakeups are for comforting and not hunger? Could you have your H give him a pacifier and soothe him for those times he's probably not hungry? Just a suggestion- I by no means have any clue what these babies want.:::hugs:::

7:30 - 5am is a very good stretch for a baby. I don't think there's really anything you can do to get him to sleep longer, it may just be a phase for him to be waking so early. DD1 used to always wake at 5am for a few months, before that she was sleeping until 9am. It was rough, but she eventually started sleeping later. If he seems tired after he wakes up still, you could try some less stimulating activities - keep the lights off, maybe just cuddle him for a few minutes to see what happens. Give him a small toy to play with in his crib?
I should probably feed him without changing his diaper because I think that's what wakes him, but by 5 am he's so wet I can't imagine leaving him in it for any longer.

I've been wanting to put him back in his room but he has such a terrible cough still an it makes H and I nervous that we won't hear him if he's having a hard time.
How far is his bedroom from yours? I sleep with the Motorola monitor next to my bed and it lights up red in response to any movement. You can also control the sound volume and I've found it to be super sensitive on even the slightest noise. It also tells you the temperature of the room which I've found helpful in making sure he's not too hot/cold.

budders, teething is very likely the culprit. It's pretty uncomfortable and breastfeeding has an analgesic effect (which always made be feel better about the nursing sessions even though their frequency was hysteria inducing). I remember things getting better after the teeth actually broke through the gums.

budders love title for support and solidarity. Sounds like our babes do pretty much the same thing. I have cried at least twice this past week. Once in the rocker with LO (which she promptly started smiling/laughing) and once in a big meltdown to DH about how I'm failing at everything. (This 2 kids 2&U is no joke!)

Oh, he's right next door. Ours isn't quite that fancy, but I turn the monitor up and can hear him fine. It's more of an anxiety thing that, in my mind, will probably lead to less sleep than I'm getting now. I may try tonight though since I don't have to work tomorrow.
Sorry to send a 2nd response to you but yep totally get it. Many a night I'm afraid to go to sleep fearing LO will wake as soon as I fall asleep. The last night or 2 has shown some improvement. Based in the wonder weeks app we just (like yesterday) finished leap 4. So we'll see what happens....
carolyngrace are you using nighttime diapers? I think they make a big difference in keeping the baby dry. We use them and change DD during her MOTN (3-4a) wake up because it helps her sleep in longer.
No because I couldn't find them in DB's size at target last time! I also think we need to size up again. Size 3 here we come. I changed him at 3:30 last night and he slept until 7:30 so that seemed to help.

We sized up and switched brands
I could only find them size 3 and up. They are a little big, but J hasn't leaked out of them yet.

Pampers baby dry comes in size 1 I believe. That's what we use and still use for DS. For whatever reason they don't work as well for LO so I bought Huggies Overnight (or whatever it's called) for her. (I can't use Target brand on her bc her skin is sensitive to it)

I don't know how those of you with more than one kid do this. I want to cry for you!
Some days I don't know how I do it either, lol! DS was super chill though. He's definitely having moments now though

Yes go with size 3. Ali is 15 1/2 pounds and in size 3 at night. Your guy is 18 pounds right?
I'm still using size 2 but only to phase them out during the day.
Guys. We (DH & I) really need to get this kid in her crib. The problem is I like her sleeping in our room and I really like how easy she goes to sleep and stays asleep in her RnP.
So should I try PnP in our room or go straight for the ultimate goal of the crib? I'm really struggling with this. It's like I'm trying to ignore the fact that it has to happen at some point.
It's hilarious that I was so dead set on getting her nursery done early. She's almost 5 months and has only had her diaper changed in there.
Yes try PNP in your room. It might be too much change to do PNP in own room. I'm actually considering switching to the PNP instead of the crib since you can lay them down and jiggle the PNP with your hands or knees and it kind of rocks them back to sleep. The crib mattress we have doesn't budge at all. Right now we are phasing out the RNP so we do 3/4 of the night in the crib and the last stretch in the RNP ( her last stretch is a 4 am wake then she wakes for day at 6am)
. Eventually I just need to cut the RNP completely out.
So tonight out of desperation I cranked up the white noise machine in her room to an uncomfortable level right before I put her in the crib and she hasn't done her usual wake up. We'll see how the night goes.
I'm not sure if it was the loud white noise or extra clothing she had on but she only woke up twice last night. She went down at 730 and woke at 1am. Then at 4am. Please please please let this keep going!!

budders cry it out! I cried so much this week about being tired and missing H!
erbear we just moved to the crib last week. We started moving her into the crib from the RnP MOTN when she falls back to sleep fast and got her used to it. Then this week we gave her a bottle in the crib in the dark at bedtime and she fell asleep while eating. Last night we put her in awake and she put herself to sleep! So doing it gradually helped, I think.
Re: bedtime - in Aug, she was going down btw 9:00 and 10:0 pm. We slowly worked her back about half an hour per week. Now she self-initiates btw 6:15 and 7:15 every night. Sad for mommy cuz I barely get any time with her after work but better for her.
Question: how long did 4 month sleep regression last for those who are out of the woods? We just started week 2 and its killer!

erbear, Oh man, I hope it's just a fluke! Maybe DB is just filling up for a LONG stretch now
I'm starting to become superstitious about sleep. Like leaving the same toy in the corner of the crib again tonight because it "worked" last night. And closing the door only half-way. And not using the humidifier. I just keeping hoping I'll find the right formula!
I'm going to talk to myself so I don't cry. I've been up since 1:30 and its 4 now. I got up to pump and then she got up to nurse. Went to bed after 2:30, she was wide awake by 3 am babbling. H finally took her out of our room so I could get some sleep, but at that point I was wide awake and couldn't sleep easily. He came in with her at 4: "she's hungry!" which, I really doubt, but here I am, up again nursing.

erbear I hope you can get some rest, sorry it's so bad right now!
Jules is starting to freak me out. She is sleeping mostly find and on her side a lot now. She the. Turns on her tummy and it's about 50/50 if she turns her face to the side or just is face down. I don't know what to do about it. I haven't been sleeping because of this. I know in probably being crazy about it. She also has been sleep crying(screaming) and sometimes lifting her head up in her sleep, like during tummy time, but she's dead asleep. It's really strange.

Two good nights in a row! Last night was 7:30-2:30-5:30-8 and to be honest I might have woken him for the 5:30 because my boob was going to explode and I didn't want to pump. Really need to buy a hand pump.
