Jw... Anyone's LO have a fairly predictable night time routine yet? We still have some bad nights (like last one) but most nights she is only up twice. I feed her around 9 and then we both go sleep and then up around 7 for the day. Each wake up takes about an hour to feed, change her and get her back settled in. I usually wake H up for the first one to help and do the second one myself. I am feeling really lucky with this!
When are you supposed to start a bedtime and a bedtime routine, etc? Eventually she will need to go to bed before us, right?
With DS we noticed a pattern around 8 weeks. We started a routine at that point after I did the whole stay up all night and day to switch the circadian rythym. Then we did bathtime , massage then music or stories and sleep. It went pretty well after about a week of adjusting.

I feel like I'm noticing a routine. I feed him at 10:30 or 11. Then 1 or 2. Then 4:30-5:30. He's naturally waking up at those times. Not a perfect routine yet by any means, but it's not too bad.

We started a bedtime routine from day 1. MH and I have severe ADHD so we live by routines so it was just a natural thing for us. At 8:30 we get her changed into her pjs (onesie, sleepsack, socks) and into her nighttime diaper (extra padding for ON). MH then feeds her her nighttime bottle until she falls asleep. This is usually by 9:30 but sometimes 10pm. We then put her to sleep in her crib with a hat, a binkie, and her white noise machine on. If I put her to bed at 7pm she'd be up before we went to bed and MH would never see her as that's when he gets home from work. So her earliest bedtime will probably be 8pm when she gets older.

This for us, too.
Similar. Once around 10 or 1030, once around 130 or 2, and the. Around 5 or 6. We go to bed after the 1030, so we only consider it to be two wake ups... Some may call it three.

We have a routine, but we're aware that it will change many times in the first year!
From 1-3 weeks old, she was cluster feeding from 8-11 pm, then sleeping in two 4 hour stretches at night. It was great! If we didn't get her home by 8 for cluster feeding, however, she slept while we were out and was up crying all night. Not fun.
Right now, she is cutting way back on cluster feeding (4 weeks old). She's still more awake/alert from around 8 to 11, but with fewer feedings, so she sleeps for shorter times at night and wakes up more often (more like what others have said above - 2 or 3 times a night).
I have no idea what will happen in the next month or two, but by 3-4 months, some babies start to STTN for 6+ hours and to have some sort of "nap schedule" of 3-4 predictable naps a day. I will try to take this opportunity to enforce more of a routine or schedule for her, but she's sort of too little for that now.
Eventually, by 6 months, I hope to have her sleeping 10+ hours at night (aka 8pm to 7am or something) and take two 2-hour naps or three slightly shorter naps each day. (This may also include one nighttime feeding/diaper change for a while, depending on the baby and how focused you are on keeping up milk supply for a year or longer...)
In any case, our nighttime routine right now includes dimming lights, putting her in a onesie with a snug sleep sack over it, etc. It will evolve to include singing, reading a book, and a regular bath time between now and 6-8 months.
FWIW, it doesn't really matter what time of night she goes to bed for a long time, so much as how many hours of sleep she gets total per day. They should be sleeping more than 12 of every 24 hours until they are old enough to go to school, basically! At that point they have to go to bed early enough to wake up for school, obviously.

Habits start to form around 3-4 months so whatever you want or not want to be part of your routine take this into consideration. For example, I don't rock to sleep.

How the heck am I supposed to get sleep in hospital when my roommate's husband snores like a bear and baby only wants to sleep being held? Plus it's freaking hot in here.
P.S El.ora Gene.vieve arrived at 6:45 pm on March 28

Congrats! Sorry you have to share a room... and babies can be fickle like that. If she's full can you send her to the nursery for a little bit?

Second sending baby to nursery! Wish I had advice for the snorer, too...
Baby slept for 6 glorious hours! I actually got her up and changed her and fed her without her waking herself or crying at all.
Now I'm the one who can't go back to sleep! I can't remember the last time I slept 6 consecutive hours. Second trimester? Maybe not even, with all the peeing...
In other news, our pedi told us not to let her go more than 5-6 hours without eating, both for her weight gain and my milk supply. Do you guys have thoughts? It didn't seem to disturb her sleep, but it still seems nuts to keep waking a sleeping baby if her weight gain is good. Especially if it means setting a nightly 4am alarm...

I would not wake a sleeping baby if weight gain is good. Nope nope nope. And your milk supply will regulate to what is her normal.
adorebel that sounds glorious. I think that's normal and eventually it lifts. We are still under instructions to wake every 4 at night, although I have yet to need the alarm...

Tips to get E to sleep at night without being held or a boob in her mouth? The nurse got her to do it for over 4 hours last night and I had to wake her to eat. I can't get her to at all. During the day no issues but night, nothing.
sunshineshades - any difference in what she's wearing (Swaddle vs sleep sack)? It also may just be the fact she's older. The first 24 hours they are really sleepy but then they start to become more alert.

Paci? She may just be comfort sucking. It may be worth a shot.

I managed to get a 2 hour break of her sleeping in her bassinet and then another 1 hour one. So progress! I've been trying the paci. She isn't sure her thoughts yet, I think she likes it but keeps spitting it out by accident. It seems to be the first chunk of trying to get her down for the night she fights the most.

My left boob is sore. I'm hoping it's only because I forgot to switch sides during one of the night feedings. I don't feel any lumps or bumps in it. E is nursing from that side now, hopefully it helps
