My grandmother's name is Georgia. DH thinks Winter is too "out there". That being said I think that is why I sort of like it. Which one would you choose?
Love Georgia. Georgeanna is a family name and I love it too. Winter is a little out there but it's a middle name so I think that it's perfectly pretty. I love Grace but personally I'm not a huge fan of the "filler" middle name. Ann, Grace, etc.
kaeguri how would you pronounce Sora? The way I'm imagining it to be pronounced sounds cute with Rowan
It's kinda hard to write the accent out. Maybe Soh-rah (with a long deep o sound and a kind of roll almost on the r and emphasis on the r). Not the sore-ah most people would say.

We've finally decided on Owen Page. Owen for my great-grandfather and Page for his grandfather. The more we say it, the more we like it. So, pending any more perfect name coming along, this is it!
Guys I need your thoughts on Evie as a name. I know it is generally a nickname, but I don't really care for the longer versions that Evie could come from.

It's cute! I'd automatically think Evangeline, or Evelyn, but I have a few friends with names that sound like nicknames and besides the first 2 seconds of "oh that's your full name? cool", never thought twice about it.

+1. Also, I may be in the minority but I wouldn't automatically think that Evie was a nickname at all:) It's a great name:)
DH really wants to name this little guy Memphis Lee. Memphis comes from a movie and since my name came from a movie, he wants to go that route. Lee is his brother's middle name. I'm not sure on that since DD is Arizona Grace.
Eta: I guess because then we would be starting a places for names theme.

I'm not normally a fan of cities as names, however, Memphis just sounds so cool. I really like it. I can easily picture an adult male with this name. You have my vote.
We now know LO is a dude. So excited, however, the name picking process for a boy has been such a challenge for us. We would really like to name him after his daddy, Lucas Alexander.
Two with the same name in the same house means we need a solid nickname. "Junior" is not for us, in any way, and we want to avoid it from day one. The current thought is using "Xander" as the nickname for Alexander.
caitie713, I'm going to be the voice of opposition and say that I would try to find a longer name you like with Evie as a nickname. I say this only because I've known two grown women who had nickname names that had that same -ie or -y ending that disliked them as adults because they felt that they weren't taken as seriously in their professions. One was a lawyer and one was in scientific research. I went to the Name Finder on baby name wizard and pulled a list of all the girls names they have start with Ev. The list is quite extensive: www.babynamewizard.com/baby-name/advanced-name-finder/results?gender=F&start=Ev Of those my personal favorites are: Eve Evanora Evalyn Everly Evaline
ady45, how many more kids are you planning to have? If you are stopping at two them I say Memphis Lee is a great name. If you plan on more I would think about what other place names you like as first names. If you like a lot of them then go ahead, but if you don't then I think it would be odd to have that theme for the first two and skip it for others.
jojorebe, what does your SO go by? I like Lucas Alexander as a name and Xander is a cute nickname, but I'm of the opinion that going by a nickname of your middle name would be a hassle. Not a huge hassle, but enough of one to make me think twice. If daddy is always Lucas then your son could be Luke or Luca or you could switch all those around depending on what your SO uses. Or if you really want to call him Xander you could give him Alexader Lucas as a name. Its still clearly after his daddy but cuts down on the possibility of junior ever being used and he gets to go by a nickname of his first name.
caitie713, you could also look at this list of girls names that contain the letter combination "ev" girls names with "ev". Not all of them would work but I can certainly see a little Genevieve or Neva or Devany being called Evie for short. Not that Evie on its own is horrible by any means, I'm just in favor of names with options for a more mature form in the future.

That's what I told my husband. It would be weird if we didn't follow the pattern with other kids we may have. Ideally we would like 1, maybe 2 more children. It's not that I don't like the name.

incir reads my mind a lot, I think. caitie713, I think just "Eve" would be a good choice if you want her nickname to be Evie. Adding the long e sound to the end of names is a common way to nickname anyone -- so Eve nn Evie would be easy (and a lawyer or scientific researcher named Eve sounds "right").

Pretty much this. I don't always think you have to build your kid's name around the nickname but in the case of being named after someone in the house I guess it is necessary. Unless he will be going by his middle name I think it's confusing to call him "Xander" for short. "Xander" has an awkward mouth-feel for me as a nickname anyway (I do like it as a proper name in-and-of-itself [how do you write that?])
telos, my grandfather is a Lawrence, Lawrence Dean...I've always loved his name.
I wasn't going to share these because we are keeping them secret, but I need help with a middle name. I like old-fashioned names and our last name is very French.
For a boy we like Julien Doria (DH wants Julian, but I'm fighting for the traditional spelling). I love this because my father's first initials are JD so I feel like its a nod to both our fathers (DH's family traditionally had first born sons carry Doria as a middle name).
For a girl, the first name will be Aurelia (with Auri as a nn). I originally wanted Aurelia Rose but everyone I know having a baby these days has Rose as a middle name. Normally I would just say screw it and do it anyways, but our last name starts with an M, and I just can't have her initials be ARM. So I've absolutely decided against Rose and need a replacement.
Big caveats are that our pets are Avery and Grace (otherwise I think Aurelia Grace sounds nice, ha!)
DSHM13, Thanks! My grandfather is a Lawrence, too. I love your names. I've always thought Pearl was a nice, less-used alternative to Rose. Sage and Rue are also both pretty names and botanical names, like Rose.
ETA: Aurelia Rue has a really nice ring to it, especially with a French last name!
DSHM13, do you have any female relatives you would want to honor with a middle name? I've always thought middle names were the perfect spot for that. A grandmother or great-grandmother who has a good name? Or do you have a particular cultural/religious/ethnic affiliation that DH doesn't share that you would want to draw from for a middle?
Otherwise I think Aurelia could go with lots of different things well. Some suggestions: Aurelia Katherine Aurelia Violet Aurelia Elodie Aurelia Frances Aurelia Doris (would this be a cool nod to DH's family tradition?) Aurelia Maeve
I think looking at that list and thinking about things that personally I like 2-syllable middles for Aurelia, but I could change that depending on the last name.
mrsaaa, I think you get me and baby naming. I've been wanting to know your son's name for some time now...
kaeguri, I do like Evangeline other than how long it is.
incir, and lawndog1216 to put it into perspective our first daughter's name is Dagny. I'm kind of in love with Devany, but think it is too similar. Also, really like Everly, but my husband vetoed that one. I just feel like Eve is so plain compared to Dagny.
People are really putting pressure on us to come up with an awesome name because our first one was "so different".
caitie713, first of all, forget the people and just name the baby what you like.
Second, I also think (and have thought for a while) that Eve is the perfect girls name so I'll put in a pitch for it. Its short and sweet, not frilly but clearly feminine and universally recognizable without being ubiquitous. It has a great image for every stage of life. The innocent in the Garden of Eden for a baby/young child, the temptress for when she is a young adult and the earth mother of us all for when she is older. I love it and even in the highly unlikely event that I am ever pregnant with a third and its a girl I can not use it because it is horrid with DH's last name. So, as a favor to me, name your daughter Eve.
Third, I think you could get away with Dagny and Devany if you really planned on calling #2 Evie 90% of the time. If she wants to switch later in life no one will really know her sister's name so it won't matter.
Just found out we are having a BOY! We have always liked Jonathan (DH's middle name) or Jack. Middle name will be DH's first name. Hopefully we decide sooner than we did with DD. We spent more time at the birth center deciding on a name than I did having a baby.
econmarie I love the name Jonathan! I really wanted that on my list but my father's name is Jon and my in-laws are jealous, so they wouldn't like the overt reference to my dad. I like that Jonathan is a nice formal name, but you can go by Jon or Johnny when they are little or if they are just a nn kind of person.

Thanks for the compliment:) Our first son's name is Wolf Marius (Wolf is a family name on my father's side; my great-great uncle Wolff is something of a family legend- left Eastern Europe prior to WW2 and then went back to help smuggle Jews out from a port in Sweden to the USA- and when I got to use it there was such a sense of pride from my father and all of my family that I was honored to be the one to carry on the name; Marius bcse my Husband is part Italian and can trace his lineage back to ancient Rome) and our next son will be Varro MacGregor (Varro is a Roman name, MacGregor is my Granny's last name). They're definitely what most consider to be "out there" but we love them and have never been one for the more "usual" names:)
Dagny is AWESOME:) And I think Evie (so cool) goes really well with it!

I need help. So we have confirmation this one will be a boy which means the name DH and I had originally agreed on was Stone Augustine. But I think DH wants to change it to use his dad's name as the middle name, Henry.
I hate the name Henry. I vetoed it's use as a first name. Honestly, I don't want to use the name Henry at all. I don't like it and I don't like the idea of naming this kid after FIL (but for really petty reasons). DH argument is DS's middle name is after my father which DH acknowledges is more of a family name.
I'm going to try to be grown up and want to come up with some names that go well with Henry for the middle name but I'm coming up blank. Any ideas? It can't end in -er otherwise it starts to get rhymy with out last name. For what it's worth, DS's name is Lennon Patrick.
skinandbones, I'm going to quietly ignore that you hate my son's name (no worries, I would never name a kid Lennon and that kind of diversity is what makes the world go round).
Two thoughts: 1. Is there another significant family name for DH that he would consider instead of Henry? Maybe a grandfather or uncle that he would want to honor? Is there anything in the family tree that you like better than you could suggest to him?
2. In general Henry is a pretty classic name and I think it tends to pair well with other classic names, which also don't appear to really be your style so that is a dilemma. With limited knowledge I have a few suggestions from the vibe that Lennon and Stone give me: Jasper Henry (it ends in -er, but it feels right so I kept it on the list) Augustus Henry Dillon Henry Quentin Henry Kerwin Henry Wyatt Henry Atticus Henry
Are there other names you like but don't think go with Henry? Those might spark more ideas.

I also like the name Henry... Buuuut, since you hate it - what about using Hank instead?
I think Augustine Henry sounds nice (if Augustine is still on the table). Or Augustus as mentioned above. Atticus is cool too.

Thanks. He has only mentioned Henry. I think it's because he sees DS's name as my Dad's name even though my Dad is one of five with the same name. I'm not sure if this is DH thinking along the lines of if we do one we need to do the other and feels guilty/ wants to make his dad happy. Or his FIL has actually said something. But all the family dynamics could probably have their own thread.
I also like Oscar, Jack, Jackson, and Phoenix. Maybe Finn and Own. But I think DH has shoot all of those down at some point.

yes, family dynamics! One of a the really good things about marrying an Ashkenazi Jew is that naming after living people it totally off the table. I'd still investigate other family names.
And I think that your other name choices have now made me more confused about your style not less, but I'm procrastinating on Friday afternoon so I'll spit out a few more: Ross Henry Arlo Henry Jude Henry Bram Henry (or you could go with Abram if that floats your boat) Dominic Henry

Little girl for us! Dh wanted to use Rayne if we had a boy (a combination of FIL name Randy wayne) but we decided it works for a girl as well. so we're thinking she's going to be Rayne Ivy. we're still not 100% on the middle name but the first name is chosen. Yay!
