So if you saw the name Aveline, how would you pronounce it? My best friend guess Ava-lyn. I'd say A-vah-leen. I love the name, but I'm worried people are going to misspell and mispronounce it wrong. They already butcher our last name, so I don't know if I want a first name like that too.

Well, I thought we had baby boys name picked out(Henry Delano) but now DH is saying no. He is stuck on wanting to name him Barrett, which I don't care for at all. Anyways...any name suggestions? I like classic names and he likes names that are a bit different, especially mythological names. Neither of us want something super trendy.
We do both like the name Jude, but can't figure out a middle name that we feel goes well.

I'm in the south so prounounciation of everything is different, haha. But I see Ava-leen. My second assumption would be Ava-line (like Caroline).

What about a combo? Jude Henry? Henry Jude? I'm a sucker for Henry. Such a sweet name. Also I'm stuck on the show Forever right now. So Henry Morgan sounds good to me.

Yeah, we live in the south too. That's why I think the name is going to be mispronounced. All my friends who were born and raised here are saying it different than me lol. Urk.
The only reason we're waffling on the middle name Ivy is because our last name starts with a P, so if we named her Rayne Ivy her initials would be RIP. Dh had more of an issue with than I do, I just joked we'd call her "Rayne let er rip". Plus our first is named piper and her initials are PP..... Seriously kids will come up with all kinds of things with that, so I don't think RIP is that bad.
Maybe another nature-inspired name would fit there? I love Rayne and have considered it as a middle name. I liked Harper Rayne (but decided No because DS has an "h" name and didn't want to trend)
Rayne Harper could work too, though And personally, I like Rayne Juniper

My cousin just had a baby Bennett, which I think is super cute. Maybe that could be a Barrett substitute? Or Emmett? Garrett? Just some ideas...

Aw, I really like Henry Delano.
Oh well, moving on to middle names for Jude. With a one syllable first and last I would go for something longer as a middle I think. At least two syllables and maybe three or more. Lets see: Jude Nicholas Jude Barton Jude Arlo Jude Thomas Jude Edgar Jude Augustus Jude Benedict Jude Nathaniel Jude Vincent Jude Tristan Jude Moses Jude Sebastian
I also think if you don't like the one syllable first and last combo you could easily name a kid Judah and call him Jude.
My grandmother's maiden name was Jordan so we have pretty much decided that boy or girl will have the middle name Jordan, but we can't decide on a first name. I like Amelia and hubby is okay with it but my daughter's initials are also A.J. I like Isadora and hubby thinks it is to old school. We like Liam Jordan, but Liam has become really popular and both of us have super common names so we are trying to branch out a little bit. That failed with DD, we thought her name was uncommon until she was 2 and there were a ton of them!
Any suggestions? Other names we have thought about but neither one of us are really set on include: Thatcher, William, Eleanor, and Sophia.
waterqueen, I'm not a huge fan of matching initials for siblings because we tend to use initials a lot in our house as shorthand for names, especially in written format. However, lots of people like the idea of having initials that match so I don't think its a deal breaker for Amelia unless you think like I do. Also, Amelia is rising in popularity quickly and already in the top 25 girls names for the USA so if you are looking for unusual it isn't. Eleanor is slightly more unusual (around the 150 mark) but rising in popularity and Sophia is #1. However those might be a good match for a sister whose name is also popular. With nothing but those four names to go on, how about these: Sonia Clara Lydia Lida Cordelia Vivian
As for boys, if Liam appeals but is too popular would Ian be a good alternative? Its less popular but not unheard of either. Or what about: Brennan Reid Henry Clancy Neil Murphy Malcolm Garrett Graham
And I love the idea of Jordan for a middle regardless. Nice name with a nice family history behind it.

DD's name, the way we spell it, appears to be ranked around 200 in 2013. I like Clara, I'll have to bring that one up. Henry and Reid are great too. Thank you!

No problem! Name popularity can be so tricky especially when there are multiple common spellings of a name. And it can vary so much by region or group that you can end up choosing a less common name and still knowing multiples.

I know this is way late but I just caught up on this thread. Jude was our choice if baby girl had turned out to be a boy and we were going to use Jude Everett.
I think we've decided on Everlie Skye. I mentioned this earlier but I'm questioning whether I should use Skye. I like the name and bf loves it but it's my middle name and I'm wondering if that's weird? We're spelling Everlie this way because both my mom and I have names typically spelled with a -y but they're both -ie instead.

I don't think it is weird for a child and parent to share a middle name. My mom gave both my sister and me her middle name, and DH's dad did the same for DH and his brother. We're in the interesting situation of trying to decide whether or not to continue the "tradition" our parents started with us.
Ok, bringing this back to life. Now that I know I'm having a girl, I'm cracking down on the name business.
So far, my top runners are: 1.Adeline 2.Cora 3.Elodie (a new favorite of mine, H isn't too sure about it yet)
Middles for #1,3: Rose Grace Mae Rain Rae* eta.
Middles for Cora, not so many Elizabeth Madeline (H family name) ??
Honest opinions on Elodie? Middle name combos for it?
I have a friend whose twin daughters are Elodie and Adeline. For the longest time I could only remember them as Melody and Madeleine with the M. Still I like both of them and I think they are totally usable. Plus her kids are freaking adorable. I like Edodie Mae the best of your middle name options.
Personally, Cora is my favorite of those three. Its cute and spunky but still clearly feminine and will age well. Cora Rose would be pretty, but I like Cora Madeline as well. I think it could work with either a one syllable or three plus syllable middle but I would stay away from two syllables especially ending in another vowel sound. Other suggestions for Cora: Cora Alice Cora Gwendolyn Cora Margaret Cora Evelyn

H vetoed Elodie, I just couldn't get him on board. He likes Cora also, that's his favorite so far.
incir I had Cora Evelyn written down also but H said it's too "old lady" ugh... He's really picky this time around. With DS he just said ok to whatever I suggested lol I'm suspecting a daddy's little girl thing going on here
Does it scream out anything in particular? Religious? Country? Certain cultural group? Redneck? Prep?
I'm not sure it screams anything. If I think about it then its a little country and a little religious -- Christian specifically. It also feels slightly Southern to me and seems to really go with the old West vibe that I get from Wyatt, but I wouldn't be surprised to find it on any number of kids. Josiah isn't quite my style personally but I like it for others. And Josiah Alexander sounds very nice together.
