So far I love Opal and Clara, DH likes Lydia and Clara. Opal is my fav and Lydia is his. We may end up having to look and see what she looks like when she's born.

Now that we know we're cooking a little boy, I may have gotten H to talk names. And I think that we hit it on the head FINALLY! What do you all think of Kyle James?

So, I thought that we had settled on Isaac for our boy, but DH keeps throwing in Edward and Eli. I like both of those names, and I like them with the mn Lawrence (the mn HAS to be Lawrence) but our last name starts with an F.
So, the big question is, is having initials that spell ELF a deal breaker or no? It bothers me a little, but DH says it's really no big deal. What say you?

As long as its not a curse word or something, I don't see it being a big deal.

I don't think it's a deal breaker. Our little girl will be Eloise Nichole and our last name starts with D so DH keeps making comments about how "the END is near" and it has become sort of an inside joke but it doesn't bother me at all.

We were originally going to name baby boy after his dad, Lucas Alexander, but I'm just not totally settled with the potential for "Junior" or living with two people of the same name. SO, here's our current choice:
Atlas Jameson
Not typical, but not hard to pronounce or understand. Masculine but unique. Too out there? Too much? We are both really digging this one. I can't stop with the nagging feeling that I want to name the child. I know we've got time, but I just can't let it go. Feel free to pat me on the back or slap me with a dose of reality.

A friend of mine just had a baby boy and named him Atlas! I think it's a great name - I hadn't heard it used before her. Agree that it's "masculine but unique," which is kind of hard to find. I approve.

I like it! It's got a cool literary linkage too.
I also feel like we need to figure the name out ASAP, even though we have time!
I haven't been neurotic or felt pressure about anything else, but sometime last week I went total pregnancy-lunatic and <<HAD TO NAME THE CHILD>>. Haha. Thanks for the support. Good luck on your name game as well

I like the name a lot! Check that one off your list -- and don't worry. Something else "pregnancy lunatic" will HAVE TO HAPPEN NOW soon enough!!

I think it's no big deal. Again, how many people are even going to know his middle name?
Speaking of middle names - anyone have any ideas for Evelyn??? I hate everything my husband suggests but I have no ideas myself.

Atlas is a little out there but not too weird. IMO it should be Atlas James though. Jameson is a mouthful on top of Atlas.

+ 1 on this- I think Atlas is a unique name, but not out there enough to be side eyes for. I also like Atlas James, it rolls off the tongue a bit easier for me.

2dumbdogs, Evelyn Mae or Evelyn Pearl? Or you could skip the middle name all together.
We are kind of stuck on middle names. Since the name we picked is more on the unique side, I want a more "traditional" middle name. The super short list is between Stone Edward and Stone Riley. Our last name starts with an S and ends with an -er. I really liked Stone Liam but DH vetoed it.
Thanks ladies! It's my FIL's middle name...here is hoping that we don't offend my BIL/SIL by using FIL's middle name.
That would be a pretty petty thing to be offended about. They could use it as their future child's first or middle name if they want. In all likelihood, not many people will know your little guy's middle name on the day to day anyway.

If only you knew my BIL/SIL...they get offended over every little thing
We still don't really have a list for baby girl. Autumn was a contender for DD and we still like it. I saw the name Laurel yesterday and I like it but feel like it is unfinished. DH didn't say no but he immediately thought of laurel leaves. I have already gotten a big no to Lorelei so that is out. I feel like by 25 weeks with DD we had already narrowed it down to Vivienne or Autumn. This time is so much harder!
I'm going to resurrect this thread because I finally need some advice myself. Also, if you didn't know the Social Security Administration just released the top baby names of 2014. If you are still looking for inspiration or want to check how popular your chosen names is check is out: SSA Baby Names.
And my problem actually sort of relates to that list. We have been slowly and lazily thinking about names for DS2. DS1 was pretty easy to name, he is Henry, which was a family name that I've loved forever and we both liked. This one we have combed through the family tree and everything that is good is used by family members (a no-no in Ashkenazi Jewish naming) or horrible (not naming my kid Ira or Ralph). In bed the other night we were brainstorming and came up with Ethan. We both really like it. It goes with the middle and last name that we are using. There are a ton of women in my family with names that begin with "E" and I could get away with saying it was after one of them although really it is mostly because we like it. Overall, we really like it and its ahead of the other options we have been throwing around (Walter & Douglas which we both agree we like and Arthur, Arlo or Jack which one of us likes a lot more than the other). Then I went to look at the statistics and Ethan is number 6 on the boys list! Ideally, I would like a less popular name. We know several other kids with DS1's name and it isn't the end of the world, but I'm not crazy about it. Ethan is less popular in our state than nationally (in the 20s somewhere -- still popular but not as bad) and I've never met a little Ethan in two years out and about with DS1. What does Aug 15 think? Is the popularity enough to kill it? Should we keep looking? Why is this so hard? Why does everyone like the same names I do?

incir, it sounds like from your post you and your H really want to use the name but are a little turned off because it is so popular right now. I think if the two of you really like it (and it sounds like you do) then you should go ahead and use it, popularity be damned.
Some other ideas stemming from Ethan that come to mind are Elijah, Edward, Emmett, and Evan. Good luck.
